The Sisters Brothers

The Sisters Brothers - A small story. As I mentioned I have not read many westerns and this does not compare to “Lonesome Dove”. A good thing. I enjoyed the characters but felt an inconsistency about how learned the brothers are; particularly the narrator Eli Sisters. Where/how did they get so educated? Also, I am sure there is some symbolism regarding Eli’s horse but it escapes me (as well as the little girl and the witch!).This is not your typical western. It doesn’t have the ‘big ending’ like, say, “True Grit”. But that is consistent with the story and characters. It is also not terribly violent. There is plenty of death, but not over the top gory. The ‘Hunger Games’ is more violent than this ‘The Sisters Brothers’.
